Artistic Impression Challenge - My own artwork

Artistic Impression Challenge -
Artwork by Rhian James
'Retro Rectangles'

I chose to incorporate one of my canvas artworks,
'retro rectangles'
as inspiration for this living room look.
The artworks are available on request
in any colour way and sizes.
If interested please leave a comment on my blog.

Monochromatic Look

A monochromatic scheme provides a strong sense of visual cohesion by using one colour which is extended by including its shades and tints.  Done in the right way, orange can create just as much attention as any other colour.  Warm orange tones are best paired with similar furniture in the same hue to achieve this modern twist on retro.  My look is inspired by one of my artworks, which shows orange and its tints and shades.

The use of symmetry is evident as the look achieves a striking proportionate balance.  This look represents harmony through repetition, as the floor lamps & patterned cushions(x3)are repeated to create this balance.
Rhythm through pattern is achieved by using pops of pattern
on the cushions, rug, sofa and artwork.
Note the back cushion I've chosen compliments
the artwork because of its rectangular pattern.

Orange has a cool retro appearance and because it's such a strong colour, its often used as a feature wall, splash backs and in accessories.  Harmony through colour can create an inviting, warm, social space, therefore the orange look I have created shows you can go all out in a living area. Go for it!

This taffeta pleat cushion is a perfect match for the Sofa

amongst the scattered cushions.....

The Moooi Boutique Delft Blue Jumper sofa
incorporates a cable knit pattern 'jumper' look,
bringing instant coziness and warmth.
Not quite sure why they named it Delft blue?
but hey, it's pretty funky don't you think?
the sofa can be bought here

The sideboard/buffet has a modern twist
depicting a retro style, which compliments
the artwork's colour scheme...

Adding two Pinno Floor lamps
either side of the buffet
adds to the symmetry look in the image
Love the colour of the wood
which coordinates with the artwork & the buffet...

I have added a custom made brown lampshades to the two floor lamps.
Darker shade of orange when black is added to
the orange hue turns into a brown shade. This colour is seen in the art work

compliments the retro style
being created

This rug has a typical monochromatic look all by itself.
The tri colour modern rug has the same tone
as the room selections, the pattern offers visual texture
and adds itself to the rhythm of pattern created in 'the look'.
